Needs Ore ~ ringed plover adventures

Events are for New Forest Association members unless shown otherwise.

An illustrated talk by Graham Giddens

This talk features death-defying feats and plenty of wife-swapping!

Graham is a freelance ornithologist and he has spent a number of years studying wintering and breeding waders at Needs Ore Reserve, beside the Beaulieu River. In his talk he will be telling us about the Ringed Plover Study at Needs Ore, during which methods were devised to help increase the hatching and fledging success of these vulnerable ground nesting waders. Adults and chicks were fitted with individually identifiable colour-rings, enabling their life histories to be documented, leading to some surprising and scandalous findings !
